Industry needs base chemicals. We produce them.

At our RÜTGERS Belgium N.V. plant, in addition to Basic Aromatics business line products, BTX and PA are produced in Zelzate. BTX is an abbreviation for the aromatics benzene, toluene and xylene, which are used for the production of raw materials and intermediates, and are needed as either solvents or degreasers. They belong to some of the most important base chemicals in the chemical industry. PA stands for phthalic anhydride, which can be used to make resins, dyes and pigments.

Our Site

Zelzate

Belgian Zelzate is the headquarters of RÜTGERS Belgium N.V. and the international Holding RÜTGERS n.v. Every year approximately 300,000 metric tons of tar products are processed here, which explains our competence in BTX and PA. The main operation here is the production of pitch products for the aluminium industry as well as that of phthalic anhydride and benzene, which is processed further to make polymers. Today’s RÜTGERS Belgium has been part of the RÜTGERS group since 1973.
